Target is a classic high-alpha hop developed through the pioneering Wye College breeding programme and released in 1972 as one of the first wilt-resistant bittering varieties. Valued for its strong bittering potential and dependable brewing performance, it quickly became a favourite among brewers seeking bold, structured bitterness.
Known for producing a firm and robust bitterness, Target excels as an early kettle addition where it contributes depth and balance to a wide range of beer styles. While its assertive character can be somewhat intense for traditional late-boil aroma applications, it has shown excellent results in dry-hopping, particularly in cask-conditioned ales where its distinctive hop character can be fully appreciated.
Aroma & Flavour Profile
Target's flavour profile combines spicy and citrus elements with subtle woody undertones, creating a classic British hop character that complements both traditional and contemporary beer styles.
A proven brewing workhorse, Target delivers powerful bitterness, distinctive flavour, and the reliability that has made it a staple hop for over five decades.
