Magnum is a highly regarded high-alpha hop known for delivering clean, smooth bitterness without overshadowing the character of the finished beer. Its efficient bittering performance and balanced profile have made it a staple ingredient in breweries around the world.
Typically ranging between 11% and 15% alpha acids, Magnum is ideally suited to early kettle additions where it contributes a refined bitterness with excellent consistency. Thanks to its naturally low cohumulone content, the bitterness it produces is soft, rounded, and well-integrated, avoiding the harshness sometimes associated with high-alpha varieties.
While primarily used for bittering, Magnum also offers subtle aromatic qualities. Fresh hop rubs reveal floral, herbal, and pine notes, while brewed beers can display delicate hints of spice, wood, and earthy herbal character that add depth without dominating the flavour profile.
Its versatility makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of beer styles, including lagers, stouts, pale ales, and IPAs. Magnum performs particularly well in recipes featuring rich malt character or expressive aroma hops, providing the bitterness needed to create balance and structure.
