Columbus® is a powerful high-alpha hop renowned for its exceptional bittering performance and bold brewing versatility. Originally selected by Charles Zimmerman for Hopunion, Inc., this respected variety traces its lineage back to Nugget and has become a staple in both commercial and craft brewing.
Primarily prized for its efficient bittering capabilities, Columbus® delivers a firm, clean bitterness that provides structure and balance to a wide range of beer styles. Its robust alpha acid content makes it a popular choice for brewers seeking intensity without sacrificing quality.
Often grouped under the acronym CTZ, Columbus® is closely associated with Tomahawk® and Zeus®, a trio of hops known for their similar characteristics and interchangeable brewing applications.
